Getting through the first draft

February 6, 2009

Writing is hard work. Finishing a book—harder. But there is support and strategies out there to keep writers motivated, especially if you’re struggling to meet that daily word count or get past those first few chapters. Not every writer is a good fit for the two strategies/workshops below, but if you’re looking for a little help in getting that book done, then check them out and experiment a little.

Fast Draft – Candace Havens has a great workshop for pounding out a rough draft in two weeks. I’ve used this strategy a few times when I’ve had deadlines looming.

If two weeks seems too short, check out 70 Days of Sweat.
