Behind the Story – Say You’re Mine

December 5, 2007

Since a popular question always seems to be where do you come up with your ideas, I thought I’d try to blog a bit about where some of my story ideas come from.

Say You’re Mine evolved from three ideas actually. For a while I’d been wanting to write something to do with a family, the Calders, who run a private investigation firm. I love adding a bit of suspense to my plots wherever I can, and a story with a PI firm was something that would give me plenty of room to work with. I also wanted to write about a cocky detective on an undercover assignment who gets roped into pretending the girl he doesn’t want to be attracted to is his girlfriend. And finally I knew to make the story a bit different I wanted to give it some definite paranormal overtones.

And what could be worse than to make the cop’s phony girlfriend be the younger sister of the two PI brothers Reece is always clashing with. And to take it one step further, the Calder’s are witches. Thus the first story in my Spellbound series was born. So not only do Reece and Violet have a drug dealer to appease and two over-protective brothers to avoid, but are also fighting an explosive attraction that can’t go anywhere. Or can it? 🙂

Say You’re Mine

There are two things Violet Calder knows. Magic. And that cops and witches don’t mix. Fantasizing about the sexy detective doesn’t help matters, not when her own clumsiness lands her in the middle of Reece Prescott’s undercover assignment.

Forced to pretend the gorgeous Violet is his girlfriend is one more nail in his coffin as far as Reece is concerned. From day one the Calder family has been a pain in his backside, and that doesn’t look like it’s about to change. But keeping his mind on bringing down a drug dealer gets increasingly difficult with Violet so close.

Knowing she has to tread carefully to protect her family, Violet begins to fear that not even magic will save her from falling for the one man she shouldn’t.

I really liked this series, Sydney and have read both books. Is there another one in the works?
