Feel Good Revisions

August 21, 2007

As much as typing “the end” is an awesome feel good moment, I think there is a lot to be said for finishing revisions. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been reemerged in the world of my Destroyers in anticipation of Unbreakable’s October release, remembering why I connected with this story so much. I’ve loved every story I’ve written, but some are just…special. The characters from Unbreakable existed in my head over a year before I was finally ready to sink into Jordan and Gage’s world. To say that I’m excited this book is getting a second chance is the understatement of the year.

And one of the best things about this book is knowing how much I struggled with this story, both in the original writing of it, and then during revisions. In a perfect world an author could hand in a book that didn’t need a damn bit of editing, but then there wouldn’t be that high from working with a great editor and turning a good story into a even better one.

When you’re done pacing the hall, every other word dissected until the pages should be glow in the dark, and the character’s are real enough they could jump from the book and bring their story to life, that is what feels really good.
